Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare

clockwork angel
I am not much of a fan of the Mortal Instruments so I was hesitant to read this book.  However, when I started reading it, I got hooked and I couldn't put it down.

What I like about Cassandra Clare's writing is that it's an easy read. She's not the type who will bore you with too much detail that is sometimes not necessary to the story. I'm the type of reader who skims over descriptions most of the time and just read the dialogues but whenever I read a Cassandra Clare novel, I read every word of it.

The plot is really great, keeps you on the edge of your seat. Just when you thought you've figured it out, a twist on the story comes and proves you wrong. The story (and the series, for that matter) is full of mystery too. There's Will and what happened to him in the past. And Tessa and what she really is and why is she the way that she is. I guess the answers will unfold as the series progresses.

I love the characters.  I like Will.  He's the rebel, bad boy type. Someone who acts like an ass most of the time but reveals a soft side when no one is looking. I like that he is protective of Jem and treats him like a brother. He may push Tessa away but I don't think it's because he doesn't like her. I got choked up on the scene when he found Thomas dying.  I like Tessa too.  I like that she is smart, she loves to read, she speaks her mind and has opinions of her own. She is not the typical woman of the her time (considering the setting if the book). I like that she can stand up for herself and is strong and brave.

Sometimes, our lives can change so fast that the change outpaces our minds and hearts.  It's those times, I think, when our lives have altered but we still  long for the time before everything was altered - that is when we feel the greatest pain.  I can tell you, though, from experience, you grow accustomed to it.  You learn to live your new life, and you can't imagine, or even really remember, how things were before. - Jem
